◆1921年にアメリカ合衆国Seedman Jungによって"Spark's Earliana"の開発と改良によって作出された。最も早生で、優れた生産性の幾分フラット（扁平）でショルダーに凹凸のある、重さ約30gから約150gの果実を1房に5果〜7果着ける。

”As its name indicates, it's "wayahead" when it comes to early ripening. First offered in our 1921 catalog, Wayahead remains one of our most popular heirloom tomatoes. For many years we placed ads in magazines and newspapers offering a package of Wayahead for 10 cents. You might say the Wayahead tomato helped build our business as many loyal customers resulted from the 10 cent purchase. The tomatoes are medium sized, nearly round, bright red and very smooth. The flesh is solid with true tomato flavor. One of the finest for juice. Determinate.”
