Introduced by us in 1926
We have grown and selected it for the past few years, and it is now very true to the Oxheart shape, except in the largest fruits. Because of its attractively different shape, large size, as well as excellent table qualities, it has quickly come into general favor. There is great rivalry among back-yard and kitchen-gardeners to see which can grow the finest Oxheart in shape and size. Specimens weighing three pounds or more are quite common. One specimen sent in to us in 1928 weighed 5 pounds.
While the Oxheart is not a heavy yielder, being similar to Ponderosa in this respect, the grower for market is going to find the Oxheart a mighty attractive sort. They sell on sight. The picture alongside will give some idea of its shape. The skin is pink, same as Livingston's Globe. It is almost seedless. Flesh frequently shows 2 inches thick, without a seed cavity. The flavor has just that delicious Tomato quality that every lover of this fruit know r s so well.
